The Bachelor’s Degree program tends to focus more on management level training since the purpose of this degree is to prepare culinary students for roles in leadership positions, such as lead chef. The most common Bachelor’s Degree programs at many culinary colleges include food and beverage management, hospitality management and culinary management. A good Bachelor Degree program will give you the hands on training that you need in order to be competitive in the fields of food preparation and restaurant management.
There are a huge variety of certificate programs offered by culinary arts colleges, as well as trade schools and community colleges. Certificate programs typically take about 8 to 10 weeks to complete and some of the most common programs include; professional cooking, restaurant management and pastry arts. These programs are best for students wanting to know the very basics in order to obtain entry-level jobs. A certificate program would also be ideal for a student that has their degree, but wants to incorporate some type of specialized training, such as pastry arts.
